The Best Way to Fix Uneven and Sunkin Concrete

The Best Way to Fix Uneven and Sunkin Concrete

There is nothing more frustrating than uneven and sunkin concrete on your property.  It can be a hazard and cause water damage to the foundation of your property.  Not everyone is aware that you can raise and level the concrete without replacing it.  In the past this has been done by using mudjacking.  Mudjacking was essentially injecting a cement slurry – usually a mix of water, soil, and cement.  The problem with doing so was that eventailly this substance would be eroded by ground water resulting the concrete becoming sunken again.  The latest technique for doing raising and levelling concrete is using polyurethane.  Polyurethane has been used for over 20 years in the United States to level concrete.  So while it is proven, it is relatively new to the Canadian market.

DTC is pleased to provide polyurethane concrete lifting and levelling service to the market place.  There are many benefits to using polyurethane to lift and level concrete instead of replacing it over traditional mudjacking.  These include:

It is light weight.  It weights less than 4 pounds per cubic foot compared to 150 pounds per cubic foot of traditional mudjacking substance.  This means that it places less of a burden on the unstable soil underneath.

Lightweight Polyurethane

It is stronger.  A contractor can make the compressive strength of mudjacking material be whatever is desired by adding cement or combining cement with lime or sand achieving compressive strengths of 2,400 PSI.  Polyurethane’s compressive strength is consistently around 80 to 100 PSI.  It is preferable to pump a higher compressive strength material than the existing sub-base.

The injection holes are smaller.  A feature of polyurethane that will make the end results more attractive especially to the residential market is a smaller injection hole. Polyurethane utilizes a hole that is only 5/8” or smaller compared to mudjacking holes that run between 1” and 2”.

It is water resistant.  Polyurethane can not be eroded by ground water, the very ground water that cause the concrete to sink.

Minimal Disruption. The area that is being lifted and levelled can be used almost immediately.  Polyurethane set quickly thereby allowing you to use the surface within an hour and half.
